The Institute for Advanced Economic Research (IAER) Econometrics Workshop 2025 was held from June 19 to 20. Sponsored by Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE) and co-organized by Professors Yanqin FAN (University of Washington), Weiguo WANG (DUFE), and Jun YU (University of Macau), the event brought together more than 100 scholars and graduate students.
Wang Xuhui, President of DUFE, delivered the welcome speech. On behalf of the university, he thanked the organizing committee for their meticulous efforts. He highlighted DUFE's evolution into a research-oriented university excelling in economics, management, law, arts, and science, with a strategic focus on building high-level discipline clusters in economics and management. After a brief introduction of IAER—one of DUFE’s organizers for the conference—he expressed his hope for continued support for its development and DUFE's discipline construction. He concluded by welcoming all participants and encouraging in-depth exchanges to advance the development and application of econometrics in China.
The workshop comprised six sessions covering topics including panel data models, time series analysis and financial econometrics, network econometric models, semi- and non-parametric methods, high-dimensional data modeling, big data and machine learning, and treatment effect analysis. It featured presentations from 21 distinguished and emerging econometricians, who received constructive feedback from the audience. The program included four invited keynote speeches from Professors Songnian CHEN (Zhejiang University), Mathieu Rosenbaum (École Polytechnique), Xuetao SHI (University of Sydney), and Ke-li XU (Indiana University Bloomington). Following a global call for papers, 19 papers were accepted for presentation by faculty and students from institutions worldwide, including Peking University, University of Warwick, and Xiamen University. The academic discussions throughout all sessions were both in-depth and fruitful.
In his closing speech, Weiguo WANG, Director of DUFE’s Division of Statistics, extended sincere gratitude to all the speakers, noting the IAER Econometrics Workshop’s rich history and affirming its role as a key component of the university’s international academic cooperation. He highlighted its positive impact on the internationalization of DUFE’s research and the global profile of quantitative economics.
The welcome and closing ceremonies were hosted by Prof. Rong HU, Executive Director of IAER, DUFE.
The IAER Econometrics Workshop 2025, the ninth in this annual series, was organized by DUFE’s IAER, the School of Economics, the Strategic Planning Office, and the Office of Academic Research—which successfully delivered a preeminent forum that fostered in-depth communication and collaboration among researchers.
